Despite gains made in the first 15 years of democracy, 55.5% of South Africans lived below the poverty line as of 2015. Coupled with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, household food insecurity, child hunger, and extraordinarily high youth unemployment levels have eroded the early gains made.
Project Overview
Millions of South Africans are living in extreme poverty. Food insecurity is a harsh reality for many South African households from various backgrounds and societies, who are not able to afford even the most basic food items.
Whilst people cannegotiate an extension of rental or other commitments such as vehicles, etc, … no one can negotiate a ‘lease’ for food.
As part of implementing the Empower SA campaign, we partner with over 250 community based organisations to bring aid to those in need. We also have an active volunteer programme that works with communities every week of the year, ensuring that assistance is given to South Africans from all walks of life and backgrounds.
