Success story: Lama al Youusef captures the hearts of hundreds

“I love you too much,” she says, hiding away giggling.
Lama’s mischievous and playful personality is what got her sponsored, changing her life from living in cramped conditions to enable her to finally have access to school and be with friends.
Lama’s older sister Zainab was first to be sponsored, and as she watched her go to school and start to have more friends and fun in her life, she felt left out.
When AMA staff visited her tent in the Al Yasmine camp located in Bar Elias, she put them on the spot, asking them “why her and not me?”
Her blunt question, coupled with her dazzling smile encouraged the staff to quickly work together on also getting her a sponsorship, eventually sending her to school.
Lama was officially sponsored in May 2022, and started to feel happy again after having no routine or prospects in her life living in the tents.
Her sponsorship at the Aman School of Excellence means that her education is covered, as well as her school uniform and transport to school, taking a huge burden off her parents, who like many others struggle to find employment within the camps.
Although the family still live in a refugee tent, their education means that they are now filled with hope, fuelling them to dream big.
