Afghanistan: Over 90 female students graduate from AMA sponsored school

This month, over 90 students graduated from the Khadijutul Kubra madrassa in Afghanistan.
The school was established in 2021, funded by donations, and is key in providing necessary schooling for hundreds of students in the region.
Prior to the opening of the school, many young girls and women had little to no access to any formal education. Since the school opened its doors, it offers subjects ranging from English to mathematics, religious studies and psychology.
“Thanks to Africa Muslims Agency we are able to learn, and we hope they are rewarded in this life and the hereafter,” one of the students said.
The school is equipped with the necessary facilities and equipment to aid the learning of the students.
According to the UNHCR refugee agency, millions of people in the country are currently facing misery and hunger as a result of the worsening economic collapse. There are also droughts and freezing temperatures in many parts of the country, with many in dire need of humanitarian relief.
Over 3.5 million people in the country became internally displaced by December 2021, meaning millions of children were forced out of school and have since remained out of education. With no healthcare systems in place and a lack of opportunities, providing schooling is one of AMA’s core aims.
By attending the school, the students are equipped with essential skills, confidence and equal opportunities to progress further in life.
The school has also given students independence and control over their own lives in what has been described by several rights organisations as one of the ‘darkest periods’ in the country’s history.
According to Human Rights Watch, although the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan has impacted everyone, women and girls face greater obstacles obtaining food, health care, education and financial resources, making projects such as this even more important.
While many girls’ school have been closed in the country, the risk of child marriage has increased, while many families are also choosing to sell their daughters out of desperation to source food or re-pay debts.
For several years, AMA has been on the ground implementing projects to ensure the safety, security and education of women and girls.
In a celebration earlier this week, the school was decorated with balloons and banners to mark the occasion of the students graduating to their next stage of schooling.
