Afghanistan: AMA sponsored madrassa for girls marks one year anniversary

This month, the AMA sponsored Khadijutul Kubra madrassa based in Afghanistan is celebrating its one year anniversary.
“What an honour and momentous occasion,” Hassan Choonara, AMA’s regional director said, describing the special day. “Students here are able to learn, develop and grow, and many of them have confidence and excitement because of this space where they are able to be free and achieve their ambitions.”
“Many of the students at the school are orphans, so this is a powerful opportunity for growth and development for the children,” he added.
AMA’s team visited the school on the anniversary to greet the children, teachers and check up on the progress of the school.
The school caters to over 350 students, who otherwise would have no access to formal education.
The school offers Islamic education and literacy classes both to mothers and young girls, in a country which has been ravaged by conflict and numerous humanitarian and economic crises.
Members of the school decorated it with balloons to mark the special day and started the day with the recitation of the Quran.
“With your donations and generosity hundreds of students are able to gain Islamic knowledge,” one of AMA’s team members on the ground said.
Many of the students took part in a performance, singing religious songs and nasheeds to mark the occasion.
